a place to gather moss
I’ve always wanted a website, a little internet home where I could put my things. I’ve created dozens of drafts, had a few fun splash pages, but I never managed to finish any of them.
When I first encountered the ‘digital garden’ many years ago, it renewed my interest in personal sites. I loved the concept. I loved the metaphor. But the more I sat with it, the more it felt aspirational. I liked the idea of being the kind of person who could curate digital index cards, itemise my thoughts.
Increasingly, I’ve felt that I needed the opposite. My life has always been a little tumultuous, defined by change. Careers, locations, jobs. I’ve been through many. What I really wanted was somewhere I could throw down some ideas or things I’ve been thinking about, with no expectation. Something persistent that I could go back to over time, as everything around me changes. A way to look at the things I felt or thought were important at some point in the past.
So that’s what this is, a place where I can experiment. A few notes, an essay or two, some photos and recipes, a tech experiment when I feel the urge. A place where I can put my things, without actively curating them. Somewhere I can let ideas and connections accumulate.
So a garden, I guess, but more permaculture than horticulture.
